Welcome to my blog "What's Up Winemaker Steve?" where you can follow and chat with me Steve Johnson, co-owner and winemaker at Parallel 44 Vineyard & Winery located in the Greater Green Bay Area, Wisconsin.
Do you ever wonder what a winemaker does during his nights and days? Here's your chance to ask me what I am up to in the cellar and in the vineyard year round as we craft the next vintage of Parallel 44 wines.
The other day you would have found me, my wife Maria and our three children, along with my parents, busy filling over 2500 bottles with our long awaited award winning Dolce Blanc, a sweet white wine made from 100% of the cool climate grape varietal called Cayuga.
By 8am we began filling, corking and labeling bottles one at a time with our daughter Rachel inspecting each bottle and placing all 2581 bottles into case boxes before they were placed in the cellar.
After 6 hours we were finished, and it felt good to see and taste a finished wine, ready for sale, after months of many customers anxiously awaiting to purchase again one of their favorite wines.
Check back with me again next week to see just how busy it can be in the winery at this time of year.
